Shoe Shrew Saturdays #10

This is the tenth post of Shoe Shrew Saturday, where I defend myself against accusations that I own too many shoes. If you’re a shoe shrew, drop me a line, I’d love to hear from you. The last time I counted, I owned about 30 pairs of shoes and boots. Do you think I’m SOD (shoe  obsession disordered?)

Bought these caramel leather, cork heeled Born Drilles at Globo Shoes a few years back. I love wearing espadrilles in the summer, they’re very comfortable despite a higher heel.

The only problem is I don’t wear them as often as I’d like to, since I drive a standard, and working the clutch in these shoes is a challenge!

I wear these Aerosole flats everywhere these days — with jeans, leggings or shorts — but they could also be worn with a skirt. Featuring a mix of creamy suede and patent leather, they’re comfortable enough to wear for hours, even shopping marathons at the mall. The silver buckle gives them a less casual look than regular flats. The only down side is they can be a challenge to keep clean. I use the ‘Nu-Block’ eraser and sandal cleaner, and it does a pretty good job.

Do you have a favorite pair of spring flats?

These are my Cole Haan flats that I bought at Nordstrom Rack last year in Boston. I didn’t think I could wear flats, since they don’t offer much support, but I found them very comfortable and make my feet look small. That’s important when you wear size 9.

Since it’s too warm for boots but too cold for sandals, these flats make a nice transitional shoe for spring, and look great with a pair of leggings.

We’re nearing the end of my boot collection just in time for spring. Today I’m featuring my deerskin moccasins that I ordered from a native store online – sorry, the name escapes me. Although they do make moccasins for indoor wear, these have a rubber sole so you can wear them outside.

Whenever I wear these I get compliments, mostly from younger women. I guess it’s because native wear is trendy at the moment, especially footwear.

With these on your feet you couldn’t be more comfortable unless you walked around outside in your slippers. These boots are great for spring and fall, when it’s too cold for shoes but not cold enough for boots.

Today I’m featuring my Cole Haan Nike Air boots, with the Arizona desert dust still clinging to them. I wore them almost every day for hours at a time; they’re very comfortable. I even wore them with my squaw dress and got the cowgirl vibe I was looking for at our Western themed banquet dinner.

I like that they look Western, but not so much that they’re out of place with a pair of jeans up here in the Great White North. I must confess, I almost bought a pair of authentic cowboy boots at Saba’s: Arizona’s Original Western Store — pointy toes, rawhide and all — but gave in to my more sensible self. I can’t justify investing in cowboy boots if I only wear them with a cowgirl outfit at Halloween.

I bought my Cole Haan’s at Nordstrom Rack in Boston during last year’s shopping trip. This year’s shopping trip is only 28 days away. Yee-haw!

Yes, we’re still talking about boots. I live in the Great White North, after all, and for three seasons of the year boots are a big part of our lives up here.

I bought these ankle short, grey, suede boots at Nordstrom Rack in Boston last spring. Love that store. These boots are made by Sofft (Euro Soft), and they’re amazingly comfortable. Also, the heel isn’t too high, which is  nice for somebody with plantar problems.

Great with leggings or skinny jeans, or even tights and a skirt.

(Humming) These boots are made for walking…. ahem. Yes, boots again. That’s all I’m wearing these days. These are your basic black leather boots, equally wearable in spring and fall. Nice square toe, medium heel.

These look great with a skirt. I haven’t worn a skirt lately, since my knees would freeze before I got to the car. But if I decided to hell with frostbite, fashion is more important, these boots would fit the bill nicely.

They would also look great with leggings or skinny jeans, as long as your calves aren’t too thick. Mine are just thick enough to fit into the boots when I’m wearing the thinnest of pantihose,  so I don’t bother with leggings or jeans.

Do you have a favorite black boot that make you feel like Nancy Sinatra?

When I first saw these at Aldo a few years ago, I passed them by, because sometimes I can be a dope when it comes to style, and I thought maybe they looked too ‘young’. My daughter insisted I try them on, and I fell in love with them.  They look great over slim jeans. They’re not so waterproof, but they’re great for snow and ice. I’ve even strapped them on to go snowshoeing. They’re getting a little old now, but I can’t let them go quite yet.

If I hadn’t bought them, I probably would have thought about them for years afterward, like a missed opportunity for a grand love affair. Have you ever felt that way about a pair of boots? (Translation: Am I crazy?)

In addition to shoes, I also have boots. Lots of them. I’ve been wearing my Sorel winter boots the last few weeks (I live in the Great White North) and they keep my feet warm and toasty. Nothing outdoes these babies for walking in the snow. An added bonus? They’re the latest trend in boots. Go figure. I wear the laces really loose so I can slip my feet in and out quickly.   They might look clunky, but they’re so comfortable I don’t even care.

Do you have a favorite pair of winter boots that get the job done?

These elegant Vaneli sling back sandals are classic winter party shoes, great for Christmas get togethers. Every woman should own a pair of black patent leather strappy sandals. They are equally wearable at summer weddings.

The mid-height heel is perfect for me. I would love to pull off a Carrie Bradshaw, but I suffer from plantar fasciitis. Don’t ask. Suffice it to say that the height of the heel is directly proportional to the pain I suffer. So I have to compromise.

How many shoes do you own? Do you have a pair of shoes like these in your closet?
