Bag Hag Saturday #11 – Neon Clutch

4 Aug

This is the eleventh post of Bag Hag Saturday, where I defend myself against accusations that I own too many bags. If you’re a bag hag, drop me a line, I’d love to hear from you. The last time I counted, I owned about 20 bags. Do you think I’m BOD (bag  obsession disordered?)

This summer the ‘IT’ color is NEON.

Everywhere you look, the hue of the moment is lime green, hot pink and tangerine. I’ve seen all these colors in jeans, tops, bags and even nail polish.

I ordered this crossbody clutch from Aldo. It features a simple snap closure and a pretty chain strap. Roomy enough for the essentials, it gives any outfit a pop of neon flair.

I’ve had complete strangers approach me in the mall to compliment me on this bag. That’s never happened before. My daughter borrows it all the time. At some point the neon craze is sure to pass, but in the meantime, we both intend to get the most mileage out of  this bag!

This is a raffia tote I picked up at Winners several years ago. The designer is ‘Kaminski Australia’, and it was made in Madagascar. Very exotic birthplace, and one of the reasons the bag intrigued me. I wanted to own something made in Madagascar!

This bag is very tough. It’s kept its shape and is easy to keep clean. It’s perfect for summer, and large enough to hold a water bottle, my Nook, sunglasses,  and sunscreen. I’ve taken it to the beach, and simply brush the sand off later. Love this bag.

This is a Guess clutch that I bought at The Mall at Millenia in Orlando, Florida. It is my first official ‘upper end designer’ bag purchase, and I bought it at Neiman Marcus. I was too freaked out to actually walk into a designer boutique, and shopping in a department store was less scary — and slightly less expensive.

I love the color of this clutch — it goes with anything. It’s very roomy for its size, and includes a handy wrist strap if you get tired of holding it or tucking it under your arm. I’ve worn it a lot and it’s garnered me a few compliments over the years.

This is another B. Makowsky that I acquired from a Macy’s sale table. It’s a soft suede satchel, and it was love at first site. The friend I was shopping with doesn’t understand my bag obsession, but she kindly kept her opinions to herself when I said, “I have to own this.”

There are 3 things I really love about it. First, the color. Whatever you call it — sand, taupe, light brown — it goes with just about every color in the rainbow. Second, I love suede in general, even more than leather. Yes, suede is more difficult to clean than leather, but nobody’s perfect. And third, I love the magnetic clasp. There’s no zipper, no flap, no snaps. It’s easy to open. Maybe too easy, if you’re worried about purse snatchers, but I try not to worry about things I can’t control. Plus it has too handy pockets on each end for keys, lists, cell phones and iPods.

I counted wrong. That was four things, not three.

I saw this in a shop window in Scottsdale, Arizona and almost fell over with excitement. This little beauty is made from cowboy boots! Yes! Even my husband thought it was cool.

The store is call Zemado, run by two sisters who recycle old cowboy boots on site and turn them into purses and wallets. I wish I could have taken pictures of every one of them. Each one is unique and there is a large selection of colors to choose from.

I fell in love with this style because of the fringes and the beaded strap. The size is perfect, too. Not too large to be unwieldy, but large enough for all of your essentials. Worn as a crossbody bag, the strap resembles a necklace. So if any of you have an inner cowgirl screaming to get out, you’ll have to get one of these!

Here is another bag from my Sak collection. It’s called a Pax Leather Mini Crossbody, and can also be worn as a shoulder bag or a hip clutch! It features 2 outside pockets on each side, one snap and one zippered.

This bag comes in a few colors — graphite, metallic, copper and scarlet among them. But I figured I’d get more wear out of black.

This is a great little bag when you really want to travel light. You can’t fit a big wallet in here, only a small change purse and cell phone, etc. Or it can simply double as a wallet, since it also features a zippered inside pocket. Your shoulders will appreciate the lighter load!

This little beauty is another Sak creation. It’s a buckskin colored leather shoulder bag that actually doubles as a nice sized backpack! How cool is that? You simply rework the strap (which is long enough to double as a crossbody strap) and voila, you can wear it on your back. Great when your shoulders get sore from the weight of YOUR STUFF inside.

It features a large front pocket for quick access, and a roomy interior with two inside pockets perfect for your iPod and cell phone.  I ordered this directly from The Sak online store a couple of years ago. It’s great for traveling or marathon shopping.

This is a classic crochet hobo bag by The Sak.  I bought it at Neiman Marcus in San Francisco about 14 years ago. My first time in Neiman Marcus, my first time in San Francisco, so of course I had to buy a bag! Since this purchase, The Sak has come out with a wide variety of bags, but I fell in love with this classic, all-season look.

This bag is great for shopping, toting, or just wandering around town looking cool. There’s a small inside pocket. It’s roomy enough for awkward items that might not fit in a regular purse, like water bottles, books, e-readers, even a large bag of chips!

I received this quilted black patent leather Guess tote bag for Christmas. My husband bought it, but I know my daughters approved it first. They approve all of my Christmas gifts. It’s like having two ‘silent’ personal shoppers.

I love this bag because the quilting gives it a ‘Chanel’ feel. And let’s face it, I’ll probably never own a real Chanel bag, unless I win the lottery. There are two roomy pockets in front for cell phones, iPods, makeup, etc. I recently used this tote as a purse when I had to fly to a family funeral out of town, and it made a great carry-on bag. It held all the stuff I needed on the plane, including my lunch.

Whatever the weather, this bag is waterproof and zippers shut, so it’s perfect for rain, sleet or snow.

Do you have a favorite tote bag for travel?

This Tignanello red leather bag is great for Christmas or Boxing Day shopping! First of all, it’s red, a Christmas color.

Secondly, the crossbody strap keeps your hands free to dig through the sale bins or slap away the big lady next to you vying for the same pair of shoes.

The bag is roomy enough to carry a large wallet, a small package of tissues, receipts for returns or exchanges, and of course, a tube of lip gloss — I never go anywhere without my lip gloss.

This beautiful bag could also be worn on New Year’s Eve at a party, bar or restaurant — very handy if you’re double fisting cocktails.

Do you have a purse you use at this festive time of year? Do tell!
