According to modern folklore, a Blue Moon is the 2nd full moon in a calendar month. This month we have two full moons: August 2nd and August 31st. What is the significance of a Blue Moon?
Nothing.
A bit of a let down, isn’t it?
Unless you believe — like me — that strange things happen during full moons. Which means August will feature two days of strange happenings, instead of just one.
If you’ve ever worked in a hospital, you’ll understand what I mean. People act a little crazy. Things don’t work as they should. Patients don’t sleep. They get chest pain. They wander the halls at night.
I do have an over-active imagination — I am a mystery writer — but there have been documented instances of increased hospital admissions, suicides, homicides, ER calls, and traffic accidents. Some police departments even increase their staffing to cope with presumed higher crime rates on full-moon nights.
And if werewolves and vampires really do exist, chances are they’ll pick a full-moon night to make an appearance.
Do you believe strange things happen during full moons, or is it a batty idea?

I think calls to the information hotline (that I had volunteered for) also increased when there was a full moon. It maybe that people just decided they needed meetings when there was a full moon.
Interesting … maybe they just wanted to perpetuate the myth. Thanks for stopping by!
Blue Moons are always special to my husband and me. We meet at the Blue Moon Cafe in Austin. The restaurant is no longer there, but we’re going strong.
That’s so cool! Congrats!
I will say, things were a bit weird for me yesterday. Bad news, arguments, just shitty in general.
There you go … we’ll blame it on the blue moon. Hope the next day was better!
Only a tiny bit better!
I don’t believe in a lot of this hocus pocus stuff, I think some people are just crazy half the time, including myself. LOL
LOL … we’re not crazy … we’re ‘eccentric’. A much better word =)
Eccentric, quirky, playfully crazy…yes all of the above. LOL
