Do you remember some of the outfits you wore when you were younger? Do you wish you still had them? I do. Even though some clothes were hideous, I thought they were cool at the time, and they defined my style — and the decade. Interestingly, the essence of my style hasn’t changed as much as I thought. Frightening, isn’t it?

Winter Coat, 1974
My friend in high school did modelling, so here I am being coached by her doing my best imitation of sexy, wearing my winter coat in a shopping center parking lot, leaning against a pole. I look really dumb, but I wish I had kept this coat — it screams ‘the 70′s’. It fit me really well, too.
As usual, I have a lot of hair happening, and in this photo it’s completely out of control. I had thick, curly hair, which I hated at the time, so I would blow it dry and brush it straight — alas, hair straighteners hadn’t been perfected yet. All I ended up with was frizz. About a year later I gave up, got a hair cut, bought an afro comb and gave in to my curls.

Oh my stars!!!! I love, love, love this coat!! And you don’t look dumb at all – you look gorgeous! I wish I had a coat like that
Thanks, Susannah! Yeah, I should have kept it. P.S. I just realized I’ve been visiting your old blog, didn’t realize you had a new one. So I’ve updated my records. Thanks for visiting!
Love the pose! I think you should replicate the pose with your new look and model some of your new purchases for us. LOL I love vintage clothing, so I don’t think you look dumb at all. Besides, the new fashion are all copies of older styles.
I didn’t know I had a new blog either! I changed the url name to be my own rather than Personally Speaking, but other than that, it’s the same ole same ole….
LOL, Selena. My modelling days are over, but thanks for the idea!
